WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SCIENCE IN Djibouti

Since its independence in 1977, Djibouti has devoted a great deal of financial and technical support to STEM through the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

Science Education

Under the Ministry of Education through elementary School-middle school-High school: In addition to mathematics programs, science education is based on scientific books (life and earth sciences, technics, physics, etc.) which must present objective and certified scientific facts.
The University of Djibouti created in 2006 is under the Ministry of Higher Education and Research is composed of:
 The Faculty of Sciences
 The Medical School
 The Faculty of Engineers

Research

From a single Institute, the ISERST created in 1979 barely two years after independence, the evolution in 2002 to a Center for Studies and Research with 6 institute marks the importance of science for the young Republic of Djibouti. Three of these six institutes conduct research in STEM
 The Institute of Earth Sciences
 The Institute of Life Sciences
 The Institute of Medicinal Research
The research is conducted with many universities on different continents (Africa, Europe, the United States, and Asia). Many researchers have been trained in these universities and continue to be. Research is also conducted between national institutions, leading to multi-sector collaboration.
Science Education

Innovation

Besides public structures like CERD, the University of Djibouti, there are other structures which play the crucible of creativity. This is the case of the Centre de Technologie et d’Innovation pour le Développement created in 2017.
Launched in 2018, the Entrepreneurship Leadership Center is intended as a support structure for project leaders.
